Root canal therapy, also known as endodontic treatment, is aimed at saving and retaining teeth that are infected or decaying. The soft pulp inside the tooth is delicate, and when it’s infected, it can kill your entire tooth. With a root canal, we’ll save your tooth so that you don’t need an implant. Our dentists will examine the tooth thoroughly before performing the root canal treatment.
You may have heard that root canals are very painful, but this is untrue. The swelling and inflammation in your infected tooth is where the pain comes from. A root canal procedure is typically only as uncomfortable as a filling. Because the procedure gets rid of the infected and inflamed tissue in your tooth, you will be relieved of the pain and discomfort.
During the procedure, we’ll numb the area so that you don’t feel anything, and then we’ll make a tiny hole in your tooth. We’ll pull the diseased pulp out of the hole and disinfect the area to prevent further issues. After that, we’ll fill the void and put a crown over the tooth. You may have mild sensitivity for a few days, but you shouldn’t have any pain in the tooth anymore.
